Universal Gas Springs – Versatile Solutions for Safe Applications
Universal gas springs are generally used in pairs. This distributes the load evenly, increases safety, and significantly extends the service life.
When selecting the right gas spring, the weight of the cover or flap is a decisive factor – but not the only one. Mounting points, leverage ratios, and opening angles also play an important role.
Practical example:
A cover with a weight of 50 kg and the mounting points shown in the illustration above generally requires 2 gas springs of 650 N each.
In theory, 2 × 500 N would be sufficient, but an additional safety margin of 150 N ensures more stable and longer-lasting use.
Suitable Length Selection
K: Hold the cover in a position where it can remain open as far as possible.
L: If the shorter gas spring is to be used at a mounting point close to the hinge, the 10% surcharge added to the R value in the formula should be increased as follows:
( L / desired length ) × 10%
Installation Instructions
To ensure optimal performance of the gas spring, it must be installed with the piston rod facing downwards.
The warning label or screen printing should not be removed.
When testing the gas springs, the piston rod must be facing downwards.
The piston rod should be protected from dust, paint, and damage.
The gas spring must not be mechanically altered, modified, or damaged.
Extension speed VS2: 0.1 – 0.3 m/s. Operating temperature range of the gas spring: -30°C to 80°C.
